The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) offers the Flex-Fuel Station Locator app that can be used for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This is the most up-to-date source for locating E85 stations and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.
The Flex-Fuel Station Locator app uses the E85 station database, hosted by the Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center and the U.S. Department of Energy. This app provides the user with location, directions and a phone number to all E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) stations in their area and the nation.
The main screen features six button icons: Stations, FFV, MPG, Prices, Favorites, and About. Clicking the ‘Stations’ button brings up a map of the area with red markers marking each E85 fueling location. Click the red marker to display information about the station, or click on the blue arrow for even more details.
From the station details screen, click the road sign icon to open Google Maps and get driving directions from your current location to the E85 station. Click the star icon at the bottom of the map to mark it as a favorite location for stations you frequently visit.
From the station detail screen, select "Search by city" in the lower left-hand corner. For a list of nearby stations, click the ‘List’ icon on the far right which will provide a full page of all the stations – including distance from current location and station address. Return to the current location on the map at any time by selecting the location icon to the left of the ‘List’ icon.
Not only can you route your trip and find E85 stations along the way by clicking on the map icon at the bottom of the screen, you can also find out if your vehicle is a flex-fuel by clicking on the ‘FFV’ icon on the main screen. There you can select the Make, Model, Year, and Engine Size of your vehicle.
Similar to the Flex-Fuel Station Locator app, the RFA has also developed an E85 Point of Interest (POI) application for Garmin and TomTom GPS devices. Step-by-step downloading instructions are available for your reference. There, consumers can download individual state data, a combination of states, or national data directly from their computer to the GPS device.
As a reminder, E85 is an ethanol-blended gasoline made up of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. This fuel is to be used in flex-fuel vehicles only, as they have been designed to operate on any level of ethanol-blended gasoline. Owners should consult their owner’s manual to see if their vehicle is E85-compatable, check our FFV Consumer Brochure, or use the FFV feature of our app.
